Tips for using Pearlized Powder
Mix Pearlized Powder as a Watercolor Paint: 1/16 tsp. Pearlized Powder (I just put a little bit on the end of my pallet knife so it isn’t an exact measurement.) 1/32 tsp. Powdered Gum Arabic (use half the amount of Gum Arabic that you do Pearlized Powder.) or 1 Drop Liquid Gum Arabic ½ eye dropper of Water
Stir this mixture until well blended. You should have a runny watercolor mixture. If you see brush strokes when you paint this mixture onto your cardstock then you need to add water. The mixture will thicken up after about a minute so if it seems too runny in the beginning be sure to wait about a minute to make your final judgement. If it is too runny then add a tiny bit of Pearlized Powder. This mixture will dry out but all you need to do is add ¼ eye dropper of Water to bring it back to life. No extra gum arabic is needed until you add more Pearlized Powder. I mix my Pearlized Powder in a case that is designed to hold Embroidery floss. You can get these cases in Wal-Mart for around $1.00. They have about 24 compartments and a lid to keep your mixture clean. I write the color on the top of the lid with a Sharpie and this way it is easy to know what I am using and to mix up more when I run out.
Mix Pearlized Powder to use as an acrylic paint as follows: 1/16 tsp. Pearlized Powder 1 Drop Glycerin 1 Drop Water Stir until well blended. Add more water if you see brush strokes when you paint with this mixture. This takes longer to dry than the watercolor mixture but gives a rich paint look to your image.
Use as a Dry Powder: To use Pearlized Powder in this way stamp using a pigment ink on dark cardstock. You can use black, gold or any color pigment ink. The end result will be different with each of the colors. Now take a dry paint brush and dip in your Pearlized Powder and brush onto the pigment ink. The ink won’t smear but the dry powder will adhere itself to the pigment ink. Brush any excess powder off the card using your paintbrush or a Kleenex. You can do this all in 1 color or brush on several colors all over your image. Spray with Krylon Clear Matte acrylic spray or with hair spray to seal the powder. You can also use a Direct to Paper method with your ink pad. Take any color pigment ink pad (pigment ink is on a foam pad.) Now smear your card at random with the ink pad. You can use more than one color of ink or make it all the same color. Now take a little of your Pearlized Powder and sprinkle it on your inked up card. Repeat with 3 or 4 colors (or as many as you would like) until your card is pretty well coated. It doesn't take a lot of Pearlized Powder to do this - a little goes a long way. Now take a dry brush and brush off any excess. You can now either spray your card to seal it or you can take clear embossing powder and sprinkle this over the card. It will stick in a nice even coat. Now heat and this gives you a little bit of a gloss to your card and seals everything at the same time.
